Mutianyu Great Wall – DIY Style

Mutianyu Entrance 2

There are 12 notable sections of Great Wall in Beijing with Badaling and Mutianyu being the most visited by tourist. But since I learned that Badaling can be very crowded especially during holiday and weekends we decided to go Mutianyu Section instead. Unfortunately we were not able to hike the section as the government cancelled hiking due to bad weather conditions. I will share you on how to go to Mutianyu DIY-style.

  1. Take Subway Line 2 or Line 13 and alight at Dongzhimen Transport Hub (东直门交通枢纽) . Follow signs going to Exit C ¬ Bus Transfer Hall. Proceed to North Bus Platform and you will find signs to Bus 916 Express (916 快).

2. Wait in line for the Bus 916 快. Fare is at 12 RMB if you will pay in cash and 6 RMB               if via Transportation Card (Yikatong Card).

  3. Get off at 15th stop which is the Beidajie North Street (怀柔北大街) in Huairou                     District.

Be careful with a man wearing uniform similar to those of Dongzhimen Transport Hub because few stops before Beidajie North Street he would tell you that it is already the Bustop going to Mutianyu Great Wall but in fact they were taxi drivers  who will try to scam you.

 4. Cross the street and connect to Bus H23 for Mutianyu Great Wall. Fare is at 3 RMB          if  via cash and 1.5 RMB if via Yikatong Card.

Please show the bus driver this Chinese characters “慕田峪长城”(Mutianyu Great Wall) so that he will remind you when the bus arrives before the Mutianyu Roundabout.

5. Walk for more than 100 meters to Tourist Service Building.
